Abstract
El presente estudio intenta aumentar el entendimiento de porqué las mujeres permanecen en una relación de violencia. Se plantea que los estilos de poder y la apreciación de la relación y valoración de sí misma son variables relacionadas a la permanencia de la mujer en la relación. Participaron 450 mujeres, distribuidas en tres niveles de violencia: baja, moderada y alta. Los resultados mostraron que la mujer mientras más enfocada esté hacia la pareja, no toma las decisiones ni tiene control en la pareja, emplea estilos de poder negativos como el ser violenta, ser brusca, y por consiguiente es probable que permanezca en una relación de violencia.
